About the Role:
Join Tamworth Hospital’s dedicated Respiratory Nursing team and play a pivotal role in delivering individualised, case-managed care for inpatients living with chronic lung disease. As the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), this position focuses on maximising health outcomes through expert clinical care, patient education, and leadership. The role supports inpatient respiratory care at Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital but is line managed through Tamworth Community Health. It is located within the hospital building, sharing space with other chronic disease teams and services to promote integrated, patient-centred care.

Applications are sought from nurses qualified to meet the Public Health System Nurses and Midwives (State) Award 2023 CNS criteria however consideration will be given to nurses who have some experience and desire to work in this area.

As our new CNS, you will:

  • Demonstrate your experience in medical/ chronic disease nursing to deliver expert respiratory nursing care, providing education on symptom management, medication use (inhalers, nebulised therapies), and self-management strategies to empower patients and reduce hospital readmissions.
  • Administer and assist with nebulised therapies, ensuring proper technique and patient safety.
  • Conduct spirometry assessments to aid in the diagnosis, monitoring, and management of respiratory conditions.
  • Support the initiation and management of home oxygen therapy, including patient assessment, education, and coordination with external services.
  • Provide clinical leadership through staff education, mentoring, and the implementation of evidence-based respiratory care practices.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and coordinate personalised care plans that address each patient’s specific clinical needs and goals.

Requirements:
Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA with relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years’ experience working in their specified post-graduate qualification of respiratory nursing, or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation.
