About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is available for a Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 to join the Greater Newcastle Mental Health Clozapine Clinic, based within the Greater Newcastle Community Mental Health Service at the James Fletcher Hospital campus. As part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team, you'll play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality, recovery-focused mental health care to consumers across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens. Working within a collaborative and supportive environment, you'll have the opportunity to influence clinical practice, support your colleagues and contribute to improving outcomes for people living with complex mental health needs.

What You Will Be Doing

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2, you will provide advanced clinical nursing care while supporting the coordination and leadership of the multidisciplinary team.

Working within the Greater Newcastle Mental Health Service, you will:

  • Provide comprehensive mental health assessment, treatment and recovery-focused care for consumers receiving Clozapine treatment.
  • Coordinate the delivery of safe, evidence-based and person-centred care within the clinic.
  • Provide clinical leadership, support and guidance to nursing staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Coordinate daily clinical activities and facilitate multidisciplinary discussions to ensure high-quality consumer care.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, medical officers, allied health professionals and community partners to develop and implement individualised care plans.
  • Support consumers and their families through education, advocacy and coordinated care.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, service development and evidence-based practice.
  • Assist in mentoring, coaching and supporting the professional development of junior staff.

 

About you

We're seeking an experienced Mental Health Registered Nurse who is passionate about delivering high-quality, recovery-oriented care and leading positive clinical outcomes within a multidisciplinary team.

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Eligibility for, or current appointment as, a Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2.
  • Excellent clinical assessment, decision-making and leadership skills.
  • The ability to prioritise competing demands within a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build therapeutic relationships.
  • Confidence working both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A compassionate, approachable and decisive leadership style with a commitment to continuous improvement and consumer-centred care.

Essential requirements:

  • Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA with relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years' experience working in the clinical area of their specified post-graduate qualification, or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation.
