About the role:
  • A carpenter undertaking this role will have completed a carpentry trade and possess a craftsman’s certificate of proficiency.
  • Our successful candidate will be working in installation and maintenance work that is generated via the computerised maintenance management system or as requested by management from a carpentry perspective in any of the buildings on campus.
  • You will work closely with other trades in the department and will also be supported by Calvary Mater Engineering management. There are opportunities to undertake internal training through the MyHealth learning system, and staff that undertake applicable post-trade studies may be supported with study leave.
  • An eligibility list will be created for future permanent full or part-time and temporary full or part-time vacancies.

Where you'll be working:

  • Calvary Mater Newcastle Engineering consists of a skilled team supporting the hospital's infrastructure and facilities. The maintenance department handles all aspects of reactive and preventative maintenance for buildings, locks, furniture, fittings and general maintenance across the hospital campus and associated buildings.
  • Calvary Mater Newcastle is a public hospital located in Waratah and is a major provider of cancer care services in the Hunter New England region. It includes specialist services such as oncology, haematology, and palliative care, and also provides a range of medical, surgical, and support services to the local community. The hospital plays a vital role in supporting the region's healthcare network and is affiliated with the University of Newcastle for teaching and research.

About you:

  • You will have completed a carpentry trade and possess a craftsman’s certificate of proficiency.
  • You have experience working in maintenance in large buildings, can take direction and work closely with management, and are comfortable working in a team environment, with other trades, or independently as needed.
