About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated and experienced Cardiac Physiologist to join the Cardiology team at John Hunter Hospital (JHH), home to the largest cardiology unit outside of Sydney and a major tertiary referral centre for the Hunter New England region.

This position is primarily based within our state-of-the-art Electrophysiology (EP) Laboratory, where you will provide expert technical support for the diagnosis and treatment of complex cardiac rhythm disorders. Working closely with Electrophysiologists, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care.

While the core focus is EP and cardiac implanted devices, the role offers rotation opportunities through other cardiac diagnostic and monitoring services, supporting skill diversification and ongoing professional development.

About the Service
John Hunter Hospital is entering an exciting period of growth. In 2026, the hospital will expand with the opening of the $835 million Health and Innovation Precinct, which will include:

  • Five new cardiac interventional laboratories
  • A newly expanded Coronary Care Unit

The Cardiac Physiology department comprises a team of more than 20 physiologists, representing a full range of grading levels, experience, and specialist interests. The team operates on a fixed roster with an on-call service outside of normal working hours and is known for its strong, supportive, and collaborative culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced technical support in the Electrophysiology laboratory
  • Assist with EP studies, ablation procedures, and complex arrhythmia management
  • Assist with the implantation and follow-up of cardiac implanted devices
  • Interpret and analyse cardiac rhythm data and diagnostic findings
  • Participate in on-call services as required
  • Rotate through other cardiac diagnostic services within the cardiac catheter labs and outpatient clinics
  • Rotate through Echocardiography and other cardiac diagnostic services
  • Contribute to a multidisciplinary team focused on excellence in patient care


About you

  • Previous training and experience in cardiac diagnostics
  • Sound knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, hemodynamics, and complex arrhythmia interpretation
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team

Requirements 

  • Undergraduate degree in Science or other similar area which includes human anatomy and physiology.
  • Experience in electrophysiology or cardiac diagnostics within a hospital setting
  • Completed education through a recognised post graduate electrophysiology or cardiac device program or willingness to undertake such training within a designated time frame.
  • Qualifications and registration in cardiac ultrasound is desirable but not essential.
