Where you'll be working:
An exciting opportunity has come up for an experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to join our supportive and dynamic team at the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). CAMHS is a specialist mental health service that assesses and treats young people 0 – 17 years of age and their families/carers who are living in the HNE Local Health District (LHD). Young people referred to the service have complex and severe mental health problems that significantly impact on most aspects of their functioning and development. The successful applicant will be based at 621 Hunter Street Newcastle with the CAMHS Greater Newcastle team however may be required to travel to other parts of HNELHD within work time.

About the role:
As an Occupational Therapist within Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service you will provide a high-quality assessment, treatment and case coordination service to children, young people, and their families/caregivers. You will provide discipline specific expertise to the multi-disciplinary team discussion and work alongside a supportive team of Aboriginal Mental Health Clinicians, Psychiatry, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Nursing, Dietetic, and Speech Pathology disciplines.

In HNELHD CAMHS, we provide Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Family Based Assessments. Our model of care supports individual, dyadic and family therapy treatment with specialised support within the team and in supervision. This workplace values discipline specific interventions in additional to the development of specialised mental health assessment skills and therapeutic interventions. The support provided within the team, our CAMHS network and other partners creates an effective workplace to specialised intervention for complex presentations.

As the senior Occupational Therapist for CAMHS you will provide professional leadership to the CAMHS OT Network – including professional supervision, orientation, support, and professional development of CAMHS OTs.

As part of our supportive team, you'll receive direct line management from the CAMHS Service Manager, guidance from the CAMHS Greater Newcastle Team Leader and professional support & guidance from the Head of Discipline Occupational Therapy. You will work within a team of experienced Clinical Psychologists, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Registered Nurses, Dietitians, Speech Pathologists, Aboriginal Mental Health Clinicians and Psychiatrists. Additionally, you'll be part of the Occupational Therapist network and benefit from regular clinical supervision and access to continuous training and educational programs.

Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy recognised by the OT Board of Australia and current registration with AHPRA.
