About the Role:

We’re looking for a Booking Officer (AO4) to join our Waitlist Management Team within the Perioperative Services Unit at Manning Hospital, Taree.

You'll be responsible for booking and coordinating elective procedures, conducting patient interviews, interpreting clinical requests, and liaising directly with medical practitioners, nursing teams, and patients.

This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same - you’ll be rescheduling theatre lists at short notice and navigating the complex demands of surgical coordination.

This permanent job-share position offers a unique opportunity to play a key role in managing elective surgical services in a high-volume, high-accuracy environment.

This is a Monday to Friday position (8:00am–4:30pm) with no weekend or shift work, offering great work-life balance and long-term stability.

In this role, you'll:

  • Interview patients and manage elective surgery bookings
  • Apply medical terminology and surgical prioritisation guidelines
  • Liaise with medical staff, GPs, patients, and internal stakeholders
  • Adjust theatre bookings in response to clinical or emergency changes
  • Communicate delays or cancellations with professionalism and empathy

About You:

You’re a confident communicator with a background in medical or hospital administration.

You can remain composed in a fast-paced environment and understand the importance of accuracy when dealing with surgical procedures and patient expectations.

You bring a strong sense of empathy, professionalism, and the ability to manage difficult conversations with tact.

You’re adaptable, well-organised, and not afraid to change direction quickly when the theatre schedule does.

You must have:

  • Experience in clinical or medical administration (e.g. hospital, GP, or specialist practice)
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise and meet tight deadlines
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and interpreting procedure requests
  • A proactive approach and the ability to work independently within a small team

Why Join the Team at Manning?

This is a tight-knit, high-performing team trusted to manage one of the hospital’s most sensitive operations - elective surgery scheduling.

You'll be supported by experienced colleagues, connected to a broader surgical services network, and recognised for your contribution to outstanding patient care.

In return, you’ll enjoy:

  • Monday–Friday roster with no shift or weekend work
  • A permanent part-time role offering flexibility and security
  • Support from a close, collaborative team
  • The professional development and growth that comes with working in a major regional hospital
  • Salary packaging, leave entitlements, and workplace recognition for hitting key benchmarks

Additional Information:

  • An eligibility list will be created for future permanent full or part time and temporary full or part time vacancies.
  • Job share / part time arrangements will be considered.
