About the role:

The Aboriginal Maternal and Infant Health Services (AMIHS) Aboriginal Health Worker works in partnership with the AMIHS Midwife to provide culturally sensitive, community-based midwifery care and support during pregnancy, as well as the early postnatal period. This service is committed to improving the health of Aboriginal families and babies accessing this support. The AMIHS program works in collaboration with mainstream antenatal services, as well as providing culturally supported transition to Child & Family Health services following the initial postnatal period.

The NSW Health AMIHS network provides specific education and professional development for AMIHS staff. Comprehensive orientation and support will also be provided upon commencement into this role.

HealthOne Quirindi provides an integrated primary and community health service, incorporating General Practice, Community Health and visiting services. These services work in partnership to provide client-centre, comprehensive and coordinated care to the local community, encompassing the Liverpool Plains. The key objectives of the HealthOne NSW model include health risk identification, illness prevention, early intervention, chronic / complex disease management and multidisciplinary planned care. Our collaborative approach ensures high-quality, coordinated care for the Liverpool Plains community.

About You:

This position will require a motivated and enthusiastic Aboriginal Health Worker, who has the ability to work in partnership with the AMIHS Midwife and as part of the broader HealthOne Quirindi team. Your ability to provide appropriate cultural support for the AMIHS service is essential for the service to successfully meet the health outcomes for our AMIHS target population.

Requirements:

  • Holds or aspires to hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a minimum Certificate III health qualification in the area of care in which the Aboriginal Health Worker works.

 

Additional Information:

 

  • To be eligible for employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia. Employment of a temporary visa holder will only be offered in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa. 
  • An eligibility list will be created for future temporary part time vacancies.
