About the Role
This position plays a pivotal role in improving health outcomes for Aboriginal communities within the Hunter New England Local Health District. Working in collaboration with local GP services and Aboriginal organisations, the Aboriginal Health Worker will deliver culturally responsive primary health care and support community engagement initiatives.
Each day offers variety, with a strong and consistent focus on enhancing the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people and their families. You will be supported by a range of learning and development opportunities to grow your skills and career.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop strong, respectful relationships with the local Aboriginal community and advocate on their behalf
- Engage with Aboriginal communities to contribute to the development, delivery, and evaluation of culturally appropriate health programs and strategies
- Provide culturally appropriate primary health care within your scope of practice
- Support Aboriginal people and their families to understand clinical interventions and health service processes to enable informed decision-making
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure integrated and comprehensive care
- Liaise and build partnerships with relevant agencies to deliver responsive and coordinated services
- Maintain accurate patient records and contribute to data reporting requirements
- Uphold NSW Health values, the Code of Conduct, and commitment to cultural respect in line with Closing the Gap strategies

Selection Criteria
- This position is identified for applicants of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
- Holds or is working towards a minimum Certificate III in Aboriginal Primary Health Care, or a relevant Certificate III qualification in health
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of health issues and key policies impacting Aboriginal communities
- Proven ability to engage and work collaboratively with Aboriginal communities and relevant stakeholders
- Ability to use computer systems for patient records and reporting
- Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel as required
