Where you'll be working
The Nurse Manager Intensive Care Services leads a dedicated team of nurses working across the JHH Intensive Care Unit (ICU), JHH Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), HNELHD Organ & Tissue Donation Service and Hunter Retrieval Service.
In recent years the ICU and PICU have undergone service expansion aligned with statewide healthcare strategies, resulting in increased patient numbers and acuity, supported by growing multidisciplinary integration, and workforce requirements. The ICU currently operates 29 beds and the PICU 7 beds. Completion of planned campus expansion works in 2026 will increase capacity for service provision to 48 ICU beds and 10 PICU beds in a built-for-purpose environment.
Working in JHH Critical Care Services means being part of a passionate team that values compassion, respect, and excellence in care, for patients, their families, and each other.
About the role
We have an exciting opportunity to join the JHH Critical Care Services team. We are seeking a motivated, collaborative and dynamic leader to provide operational and strategic oversight of two specialised intensive care units, a critical care retrieval service, the critical care outreach service for JHH and JHCH, the HNELHD Organ and Tissue Donation Service and a large and growing nursing workforce. The Nurse Manager is accountable for 24/7 service delivery, workforce planning and optimisation, integration of clinical education, and the implementation of robust quality and safety governance frameworks across both adult and paediatric patient populations. This portfolio requires advanced leadership, cross-sector collaboration, and high-level decision-making aligned with organisational priorities and patient care outcomes.
This is an opportunity for someone to contribute to the strategic direction of intensive care and critical care outreach and retrieval at one of the largest tertiary facilities in NSW. A collaborative, patient-focused leader will guide the team through transition to SDPR and relocation to expanded, updated facilities in 2026, with further growth anticipated in coming years. The position contributes positively and effectively to leadership teams across intensive care, retrieval, outreach, critical care services and JHH nursing management.
