About the Role

We are seeking a reliable, mature, and enthusiastic Telephonist to join our Emergency Department administrative team in a casual overnight role (9:00pm – 7:00am, 7-day rotating roster).

As the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and staff, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring seamless communication during the hospital’s most vital hours.

A typical shift will see you:

  • Operating the hospital switchboard and paging systems
  • Managing a high volume of calls and enquiries
  • Greeting and registering Emergency Department patients and visitors
  • Accurately recording and relaying messages
  • Supporting clinical teams with timely and clear communication
  • Working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

This is a unique opportunity for someone who thrives in calm, focused overnight work and can confidently handle sensitive situations with professionalism and care.

 

About You

We’re looking for someone who brings both capability and the right attitude to this important frontline role.

Essential:

  • Availability to work overnight shifts (9pm–7am) across a 7-day rotating roster
  • Strong communication skills with a compassionate, patient-focused approach
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage competing priorities
  • Confidence working independently overnight
  • Solid computer and switchboard/telephony skills
  • Experience in healthcare, customer service, or high-volume call environments is desired.

You’ll also bring a mature outlook, sound judgement, and the ability to interact with people from all walks of life in a respectful and professional manner.
