Where You’ll Be Working
Morisset Hospital is a large inpatient psychiatric service set on a unique lakeside bushland campus with heritage buildings and expansive grounds. This is a rare opportunity to join the team during an exciting period of change, as planning is underway for a new purpose-built facility in Maitland in the coming years.
You will work across three inpatient units:
- Kestrel Unit – Medium Secure (30 bed male unit)
- Rosella Unit – High Support (14 bed mixed unit)
- Cottages Program – Clinical Rehabilitation (47 bed mixed unit)
As part of a collaborative Allied Health team, you’ll work alongside passionate clinicians focused on recovery-oriented mental health rehabilitation.
About the Role
This Dietitian Level 3 position provides specialised nutrition care to consumers experiencing severe and enduring mental illness, often with complex physical health and social needs.
In this varied role you will:
- Deliver individual and group dietetic interventions across inpatient units
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support recovery and rehabilitation
- Contribute to food service planning and nutrition standards across the Morisset campus
- Support consumer skill building, including nutrition education and cooking programs
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives, including planning for the new Maitland facility
You will also work closely with the Occupational Therapy team to support cooking and nutrition programs and maintain strong partnerships with Food Services and community transition teams.
This position is offered as a 12-month maternity leave opportunity, with full-time or part-time/job share arrangements available. Applicants seeking part-time work are encouraged to apply.
About You
We’re looking for a Dietitian who is passionate about improving nutrition outcomes for people living with complex mental health needs.
You will bring:
- Strong clinical dietetic skills, including experience with malnutrition, disordered eating and chronic disease management
- The ability to prioritise competing demands and manage a complex caseload
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills when working with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
- A commitment to consumer-centred and culturally safe care, including collaboration with Aboriginal health services
- Confidence to advocate for high quality nutrition care within a busy hospital environment
- A proactive approach to service improvement and innovation
Support and Development
You will be supported by an experienced Allied Health leadership team, with:
- Regular leadership support and program planning with the OT & Nutrition Team Leader
- Clinical supervision and discipline support from Nutrition and Dietetics leadership
- A strong in-service education program and professional development opportunities
- Opportunities for research and service innovation
Pending start dates, a handover and buddy period with the current Dietitian may be available.
Requirements
Must hold a bachelor or post graduate degree in nutrition and dietetics that provides eligibility for full membership of the Dietitians Association of Australia.
Eligible to drive in NSW.
