The Gastroenterology department at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick is seeking a permanent 0.5 FTE (20 hours per week) Staff Specialist to join their team. 

What you'll be doing

Provide excellent clinical services to children and their families as part of a multi-disciplinary team. 
Participate in review and quality improvement activities, as well as training and education of staff and medical students. 
Abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award. 
To deliver evidence- based care to children with gastroenterological, hepatological, and nutritional disorders 
To support the research and educational activities of the gastroenterology department. 
Develop and undertake world class research that enhances health outcomes of children with gastroenterological, hepatological, and nutritional disorders 
Develop and support the educational activities within the Department and more broadly across the hospital. 
Mentor and train the next generation of health professionals and scientists in the field of paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition. 
Effectively work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. 
Participate in review and improvement activities that focus on measurable impact on health outcomes. 
Abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance 
with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.

  1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist - Paediatric Gastroenterologist, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways
  2. Demonstrated recent clinical experience in paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition, and management of complex and rare diseases in the field at the role delineation of the service.
  3. Being certified for the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy including stricture dilations, foreign body removals, polypectomy, banding, management of GI bleeding. Additional expertise in performing pH-Impedance testing, oesophageal and ano-rectal manometry is desirable. Experience in treatment of disorders of neuro-gastroenterology and motility, aero-digestive conditions, inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal failure, hepatology, nutrition
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team. Proven expertise in working effectively with stakeholders, including consumers. Willingness to take part in non-clinical activities, including administration
  5. Possess (or enrolled in) a higher research degree, and an ongoing commitment to research and translating research into clinical practice
  6. Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  7. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement
  8. Availability to participate in an on-call roster, including weekend and public holiday cover, and to respond on site within a reasonable time

The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience.  The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the relevant University.  The academic title will be held for the duration of The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network appointment.  No remuneration is attached to the University appointment.  The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network for clinical matters.
