What you'll be doing

Applications are sought for the role of Ward Clerk, for Westmead operating suites, a tertiary referral trauma centre with 24 operating rooms. The position is responsible for providing professional, high quality customer service for the Medical, nursing staff and patients and functions to support the effective and efficient delivery of surgical procedures, for elective and emergency surgery. Ward Clerks support the service from 0700-2200 Monday to Friday and 0800-1630 on weekends and the roles include admitting and discharging patients, scheduling cases, managing reception enquiries and check in of patients for procedures. The position contributes to continuous improvement of team processes as well as support for the NM Equipment and Supply.

As a Ward Clerk, you’ll play a critical role in supporting patient care by managing administrative tasks and providing exceptional customer service. Your work ensures smooth operations and accurate patient information flow within the Operating Suites.

In this role you will be:

  • Accurately entering and maintaining patient data in iPM, including admissions and discharges.

  • Delivering professional reception and customer service to patients, carers, and staff.

  • Organising transport, interpreter services, and pastoral care as required.

  • Maintaining inpatient files and ensure compliance with documentation standards.

  • Assisting with clerical duties and support nursing staff to enhance patient care.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Demonstrated experience using patient database systems such as iPM or Cerner.

  2. Demonstrated clerical or administration experience in a health, hospital or medical environment.

  3. Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Windows including Outlook, Word and Excel.

  4. Demonstrated experience in working in a fast paced environment with strong organisational and time management skills.

  5. Demonstrated experience in dealing with patients/customers and their families//carers.

  6. Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and in a multidisciplinary team environment.

  7. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  8. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to.
