Where you'll be working
Join the new Forensic Mental Health Inpatient Service at Budyari Gamada, Blacktown Hospital, opening 13 October 2026. This is a unique opportunity to help establish a contemporary service and contribute to the culture, model of care and consumer experience from day one.

Working across a 20-bed low secure and 24-bed medium secure forensic mental health service, you will be part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team committed to recovery, rehabilitation, innovation and evidence-based practice.

What you'll be doing 
As the Senior Dietitian, you will provide advanced clinical nutrition assessment and intervention for consumers across the forensic mental health wards. You will manage a complex caseload with a high degree of autonomy while providing professional leadership and supporting high-quality, person-centred care.

• Provide advanced nutritional assessment, dietary education, counselling and therapeutic dietary interventions.

• Assess and prioritise complex nutritional risks, including malnutrition, metabolic abnormalities, eating disorders, food insecurity and poor oral intake.

• Work collaboratively with consumers, families and multidisciplinary teams to develop effective, individualised nutrition strategies.

• Provide clinical leadership through supervision, mentoring, education and student training.

• Lead and contribute to research, quality improvement, accreditation and evaluation initiatives that strengthen dietetic practice and consumer outcomes.

Essential Requirements:

Qualification: Must hold a bachelor or post graduate degree in nutrition and dietetics that provides eligibility for full membership of the Dietitians Australia (DA), or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer. 

Selection Criteria:

1. Recognised tertiary qualifications in Nutrition and Dietetics, enabling eligibility for full membership of the Dietitians Association of Australia.

2. Significant post graduate experience working as a clinical dietitian including a demonstrated understanding of the hospital setting, complex mental health conditions, and nutritional needs in this context.

3. Demonstrated experience in prioritising a challenging and demanding caseload; managing stressful situations; and applying effective reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of complex nature.

4. Demonstrated experience in working as part of a mental health multidisciplinary team both independently and collaboratively.

5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage clients, carers, and multidisciplinary team members, both verbally and in writing.

6. Demonstrated experience in the provision of clinical supervision in a healthcare setting and ability to exercise expert advice, consultation, and staff education in relation to the provision of dietetics services.

7. Experience in designing, implementing, leading, developing and evaluating research/quality improvement projects to enhance clinical practice and service delivery.

8. Current unrestricted Australian drivers licence and willingness to drive for work purposes.
