The primary purpose of the Parenting Educator role is to provide education that engages pregnant women and their partner/support people in practical and challenging discussions and presentations that will increase their knowledge and confidence for childbirth and early parenting. 
This rewarding role provides education, support and guidance to expectant and new parents, helping families build confidence and knowledge throughout their pregnancy, birth and early parenting journey. As part of a multidisciplinary maternity team, you will play a key role in delivering evidence-based antenatal and parenting education programs that promote positive birth experiences and healthy family outcomes. 

The successful candidate will provide contemporary, family-centred education in both face-to-face and virtual settings, supporting informed decision-making and empowering parents during the transition to parenthood. We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Midwife with excellent communication and presentation skills, you enjoy educating and empowering families and are committed to delivering exceptional patient-centred care. Our maternity services are committed to delivering safe, compassionate and family-focused care across the pregnancy, birth and postnatal continuum.

What you will bring to the role

  1. Practice in accordance with legislation, common law, Registered Nurse/Midwife Standards for Practice, the Code of Professional Conduct and maintain registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority (AHPRA).
  2. Demonstrate knowledge and apply the skills required of a Registered Midwife in contemporary Midwifery practice, including knowledge and understanding of appropriate equipment, legislation, policies, and procedures.
  3. Knowledge in the development and evaluation of antenatal education program based on adult learning principles
  4. Experience in educating and supporting new parents across the Maternity continuum including Breastfeeding education
  5. Effectively communicate with patients, consumers, carers, and the multidisciplinary health care team to ensure the provision of safe, compassionate quality care.
  6. Working knowledge of a range of computer applications and the ability to use an online platform to deliver classes including PowerPoint
  7. Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice
  8. Ability to work independently and be highly motivated, creative, and innovative. Demonstrate high level analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise initiative and judgement in providing advice on sensitive matters
