About the Opportunity

As the Aboriginal Clinical Lead - Violence, Abuse and Neglect (VAN), you will play a key leadership role in strengthening culturally safe, trauma-informed care for Aboriginal children, young people, adults and families across the Central Coast. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, community leaders and Aboriginal community-controlled organisations, you will help embed an Aboriginal worldview within VAN services while supporting improved health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal people living on Darkinung Country.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Provide clinical, cultural and professional leadership to ensure culturally safe, trauma-informed care is embedded across VAN services. 
  • Build trusted relationships with Aboriginal communities, community-controlled organisations and partner agencies to improve access to care and strengthen community engagement. 
  • Support Aboriginal children, young people, adults and families who have experienced violence, abuse and neglect through culturally responsive therapeutic care, consultation and advocacy. 
  • Mentor, supervise and support Aboriginal staff and multidisciplinary teams, fostering a culturally safe workplace and promoting continuous learning and professional growth. 
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement and collaborative partnerships that enhance outcomes for Aboriginal communities across the Central Coast.

This position is graded for the following:

  • Counsellor Level 4. 
  • Psychologist. 
  • Senior Psychologist. 
  • Sexual Assault Worker Level 4. 
  • Social Worker Level 4.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person with strong connections to community and a passion for improving health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal people. 
  • Holds a Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology or another relevant health-related discipline, with current AHPRA registration (Psychology) or eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), as applicable. 
  • Has demonstrated experience supporting children, young people, adults and families affected by violence, abuse and neglect, with a strong understanding of trauma-informed practice. 
  • Demonstrates experience in, or a strong commitment to, providing culturally responsive services and embedding cultural safety in clinical practice. 
  • Enjoys working collaboratively, providing clinical and cultural leadership, supervision and mentoring to support both staff and high-quality outcomes for Aboriginal communities.
