SESLHD manages the Sydney Metro part of the SESI Psychiatry Training Network Unaccredited trainees will have the opportunity to further explore the field of Psychiatry and provide psychiatric care under supervision of consultant psychiatrists. Partial comparability trainees can also apply for unaccredited positions if they have been accepted by the RANZCP for the partial comparability pathway.

Trainees rotate through mandatory terms in adult, child and adolescent and consultation-liaison psychiatry and have a choice of a broad range of additional placements including subspecialties as diverse as Old Age Psychiatry, Youth and Early Intervention, Forensic Psychiatry, Emergency Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, Private Hospitals, Peri-Natal Psychiatry and Intellectual Disability Mental Health. 

There are internationally respected professorial units to which trainees can be allocated, with specific terms available at the Black Dog Institute (mood disorders), the Clinical Research Unit for Anxiety and Depression –  CRUfAD (mood and anxiety disorders) and in Neuropsychiatry.

To provide effective Mental Health services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in psychiatric practice, in a complex clinical environment. 
 
  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category
  2. Completion of at least two postgraduate medical years
  3. Demonstrates a commitment to Psychiatry Training
  4. Demonstrates evidence of good communication skills, both oral and written
  5. Demonstrates an ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
  6. Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team
  7. Demonstrates professional behavior towards staff, patients and carers.
