The Role

 

We are seeking two full-time Senior Resident Medical Officers (General Medicine) to join our relief pool, providing coverage across Tweed, Byron and Murwillumbah Hospitals. This role offers varied and rewarding clinical experience, supporting multiple departments and teams across the network.

Please note that at this time we do not have capacity to support rotations or specialty experience to meet GP Training requirements for the remainder of 2026. If this is a requirement for you, unfortunately this position will not be suitable at present.

 

The 2027 Annual Medical Recruitment Campaign will be advertising positions for 2027—please keep an eye out in the coming months if you are seeking training-aligned roles.

About Tweed Valley Hospital

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join Tweed Valley Hospital, your primary work location and a new, major referral hospital at the heart of the network of hospitals and health facilities across the Tweed-Byron region, also including Murwillumbah District & Byron Central Hospitals.  The 723.3 million state-of-the-art hospital opened on 14 May 2024 and will deliver additional health services and bed capacity to meet the growing community's healthcare needs.

 

Tweed Valley Hospital has:

 

                    currently 280 beds with capability to expand to 430 beds

                    expansive outpatient facilities with opportunity to increase available clinics

                    a developing interventional cardiology service

                    a fully capable emergency department with 42 treatment spaces

                    an integrated cancer care service with radiotherapy

                    12 operating theatres

                    a dedicated Learning, Development & Research centre located on campus, with modern library facilities

                    End of trip facilities (showers etc) and free staff parking!

What you'll be doing
 

The purpose of the position is to provide medical care and support, as part of a multi-disciplinary team that is consistent with the level of clinical competency and experience of the appointed trainee. This includes the assessment and management of patients across several clinical departments under the supervision of senior practitioners whilst developing broad skills in clinical decision making and practice. 
 
  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role (please address these in your response)
  2. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other members of the healthcare team
  4. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and other members of the health care team
  5. Good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
  6. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
  7. Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education
  8. Valid unrestricted drivers’ licence for use in NSW/Australia and willingness to travel in the course of employment. Availability and capacity to participate in a 24 hour/seven day rotating roster which includes working all shifts, all days of the week including public holidays
